Work for homeowners — the bigger jobs, and the smaller repairs that come with owning a house.

Extensions

Single-storey rear extensions, side returns and wrap-arounds. We take these on as a whole job rather than a set of separate trades you have to coordinate yourself — groundworks and foundations, brickwork and blockwork, roof, openings into the existing house, first fix, plastering and finishing.

Extensions live or die on the sequencing. Getting the steel and the openings right before anything gets buried, having the roof watertight before plaster goes anywhere near it, and not letting a job sit still waiting on one trade. Because Matt is on site rather than managing from a distance, that sequencing gets handled as the job goes rather than being discovered at the end.

We will be straight with you about what an extension involves before you commit — how long you will realistically be without a kitchen, what the noisy weeks look like, and where the costs can move. Plans, building regulations and party wall matters vary job to job; we will tell you what is needed for yours.

Full house renovations

Whole-property refurbishments — the sort of job where the house is stripped back and put together again properly. Walls out or in, floors levelled, kitchens and bathrooms replaced, wiring and plumbing brought up to date, and the whole lot plastered and finished.

These are the jobs where coming from a plastering background shows most. The finish is the part you live with, and it depends entirely on what happened underneath it — whether the walls were prepared, whether the chases were filled properly, whether anyone bothered to get the reveals square. We care about that part because it used to be our job to cover for it.

Renovations also throw up surprises more than any other work: damp behind plaster, joists that have been notched to nothing, previous work that was never signed off. Our approach is to show you what we have found, explain what it actually means for the house, and price the fix before carrying on — not to bury it and hand you a bill at the end.

Domestic repairs & maintenance

The smaller jobs — the ones that are genuinely hard to get anyone to turn up for. Plastering repairs and patches, cracked or blown plaster, making good after a leak, doors that do not shut, tiling, skirting, and general repairs around the house.

We keep taking these on deliberately, even though the money is in the bigger jobs. Partly because they are often the first time someone uses us and the extension conversation comes later, and partly because a person who needs one wall re-skimmed should not have to ring eleven builders to find one who will come out.

Landlord & estate agent maintenance contracts

Ongoing maintenance across a portfolio, on a contract basis rather than job by job. Reactive repairs when a tenant reports something, void turnarounds between tenancies, planned works, and the making-good that keeps a property lettable.

What agents and landlords usually want is not the cheapest hourly rate — it is someone who answers the phone, turns up when they said they would, and can deal with the whole list rather than three separate trades for one flat. That is what we are set up for: broad enough across the trades to handle most of what comes up, and small enough that you are dealing with the same person each time.

Care home & commercial small repairs

Small works and repairs for care homes and commercial premises — the ongoing list of jobs that a building generates and that nobody on site has time to chase contractors for.

Working in a care home is not the same as working in an empty house. There are residents in the next room, staff routines that cannot be interrupted and areas that need to stay accessible. We work around all of that: quiet work at agreed times, areas sheeted and made safe, and tidied up before we leave rather than left part-finished overnight.

The same applies to commercial premises still trading — we would rather fit around your opening hours than have you close for us. Tell us the constraints and we will work to them.
